Description: Lord Ganesh is worshipped before starting anything new as it believed to be auspicious. Lord Ganesh is known as Ganesha, Vighneshwara, Ganpati, Vinayak, Ganapati, Pillaiyar, Ekadanta, Dvaimatura, Ganadhipa, Heramba, Lambodara and Gajanana. It is believed that Ganapati got his elephant head when he came between Shiva and Parvati. Shiva cut off his head and later he replaced it with an elephant head. Out of Ganesha's eight avatars, five have a mouse as his vehicle. Other vehicles are peacock, lion, elephant, tortoise and horse. Ganapati is worshipped in the Ganesha Festival or Ganesh Chaturthi which takes place in the month of August or September. Lord Ganapati is very fond of 'modaks' and it is given as a prasad to everyone who visit temples.
